Atmel AVR Assembler
Atmel AVR's are fun to work with, due to their simple butt yet quiet powerful design. To get the best out of these chips, I think they should be programmed in assembler. The AVR has a very limited instruction set, hence the name RISC processor. This way more complex calculations, like multiplications, have to be done in software. For the majority of projects the AVR is sufficient, for more complex projects I tend to look at the ARM-processor range.
